As confessed by Bieber himself, he fell apart from his beloved mother for a period of time. It happened at the time when Bieber was acting out and getting tangled in various controversies which included him being arrested as well. Bieber admitted that he was ashamed of his misdeeds and he stopped communicating with his mom because he was ashamed of himself. He never wished for his mother to be disappointed in him but he ended up doing just that.
