(despite its name), founded in the Western United States during the 19th century. They usually weigh from 30 to 65 pounds and stand from 17 to 26 inches. Australian shepherds are typically highly energetic and require a lot of attention from their owner or trainer. Many of them retain strong working-dog genes. They love having a task to do, left indoors for a long time will make them really bored, therefore they are not really suited for apartments. In fact, this breed was developed to serve on the ranch, which makes them more eager to be in the field than to hang out with the family members.
