Akita is Japanese breed, developed to hunt big animals like bears, boars, and elks. You probably heard the story of Hachiko, the famous dog, who is revered in Japan for his display of loyalty.

An Akita needs to be walked for at least 20-30 minutes daily, preferably on a leash. They are not known for barking which makes them attractive for those owners who are living in apartments. This breed gets along well with other animals if they are raised together. Akitas are highly intelligent dogs but their independent personality often makes their training challenging. They are protective of their family, especially children.
