Tango, Four Years at a Marina She Is Not Allowed to Leave

Spanish police and US agents boarded Tango at a Palma de Mallorca marina in April 2022 on a warrant alleging bank fraud, money laundering and sanctions evasion by the yacht’s alleged owner, the sanctioned billionaire Viktor Vekselberg. Spain then handed the running costs to Washington. Forbes reported in July 2026 that American taxpayers had spent about $14 million across 51 months, and other estimates run considerably higher. What the money buys is a 78 metre hull going quietly bad: a skeleton crew of around ten, paint deteriorating, growth on the bottom, air conditioning humming for nobody. KleptoCapture, the task force that ordered the raid, has since been disbanded, which leaves the yacht without an owner in any practical sense. As of September 2026 she is still in Palma, still unsold, with no buyer in sight.
