Throughout the passage of time, women have played imminent roles in the foundation of history. While some of these ladies were ethereal and supremely elegant, others were brash and outright bizarre. The strange habits of men in history are flagrant as there was a higher number of male rulers, however, some of the women also possessed habits that were completely weird. Just as powerful women had colossal leadership skills, they were capable of being just as berserk as the historical men. Here is a list of five such ladies and their weird practices:
Elizabeth Bathory
Elizabeth Bathory was a Hungarian noblewoman from the noble family of Bathory. She was allegedly a serial killer. The horrific tales of her deranged crimes were verified by many. Bathory and four collaborators had inhumanly tortured and killed hundreds of young women between 1585 and 1609. Though the exact number of her victims haven’t been asserted, it is estimated to be around 650. The tales of her barbarous crimes are verified by the testimony of more than 300 witnesses and survivors, and also by the presence of grotesquely mutilated, dead and imprisoned girls. She was known to have vampire-like tendencies because of her ludicrous practice of bathing in the blood of youthful girls to retain her youth. Even though she didn’t face trial because of her influential family, she was held in solitary confinement for four years until her death in 1614.
Agnes Sorel
Agnes Sorel was boastfully a chief mistress of King Charles VII of France. She was contemplated to be the first officially granted royal mistress. Sorel was scandalous because of her bawdy practice of wearing extremely low cut gowns and having a single breast completely uncovered. This trait was both imitated and loathed. She also adorned herself with an uncut-diamond necklace, which caused a lot of chaos as it was rendered inappropriate to wear such forbidden jewels. She died under inconclusive circumstances at the age of 28.
Queen Nzinga
Queen Ana Nzinga was a 17th-century queen who rose to power when her brother, then king, committed suicide. Nzinga was a powerful lady who fought confidently and courageously for the freedom and well being of her kingdoms against the Portuguese. She is remembered for her political and diplomatic intellect. However, a lesser known fact about her is that she had personal a harem appointed to satisfy her sexual desires. Strangely enough, she made the males in her harem dress as females and she also chose her partner to sleep with every night.
Queen Victoria
Queen Victoria reigned and dominated the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland from 1837 to 1901. She wedded her maternal cousin, Prince Halbert. After her husband perished, she subsequently ordered the longest mourning period which lasted for 25 years. One of her bizarre practices was to self medicate; she legally ingested cocaine, opium, and even chloroform.
Empress Elizabeth
Russian Empress Elizabeth forcefully took the throne if Russia in 1741. She efficaciously outlawed the death penalty in Russia. A furtive fact about her is that she loved to cross-dress. She believed that she had amazing legs and hence opted to dress as men, as dressing as women did not allow her to flaunt her legs. She even ordered men and women to cross-dress during her reign.
